Our Story

Stanton Nutrition Counseling opened its doors in February 2020 (little did we know…) but the vision began about a year earlier when I was working at an acute inpatient behavioral health hospital. As the only dietitian on staff, I was often the first (and sometimes the only) one to recognize nutrition concerns and found myself quickly frustrated by the utter lack of resources (internally, locally, and within the region) for individuals experiencing eating disorders. After about a year of working there, during a meeting with a patient who was about to discharge for third or fourth time and was suffering tremendously from her eating disorder, I remember feeling so frustrated that I threw my hands up and said, “I just wish I could find a provider to help you!” With raised eyebrows, she looked at me and said, “Why don’t you just start a practice?”

And that was it…the dream began.

I didn’t realize how quickly it would happen, but with the global pandemic and its staggering impact on the prevalence of eating disorders, by the start of 2022, my practice was full. I was having to turn people away from receiving treatment, and in my entire life, I can think of few conversations worse than having to tell a parent I wasn’t able to help their child, while also not being able to refer them out because everyone else had a waitlist too. I remember one day feeling so frustrated while sharing one of these conversations with my husband that I threw my hands up in the air and said, “I just wish I had the time to see more people!” With a loving smile, he looked at me and said, “Why don’t you just hire more dietitians?”.

And that was it. In a familiar fashion… the dream evolved.

In 2023, my solo practice transitioned to a group practice, and what learning a curve that was! After hitting and smoothing out our fair share of bumps along the way… now here we are, and we couldn’t be happier to be a part of this community. We love working with our clients and their families, and we are so thankful for the incredible partnerships we have developed with other health care providers and practices, not only locally, but throughout the entire state.
